Game mechanic idea

Just want to jot down another idea before I forget: players try to construct hands of dice, cards, or something that is not deterministic.  Okay, so far not very interesting.  At some point, players have to freeze and/or reveal part of their hand.  Some hand types are stronger against various opposing hands.  This creates the asymmetrical / evolving rock-paper-scissors like in RTS games, except short on the strategy.
